Pellegrini's bizarre 'energy' claim

Manuel Pellegrini left many West Ham fans scratching their heads in bewilderment when he claimed Everton had more "energy" than United due to their precarious league position.

Whilst it should of course be remembered that English is not the Chilean manager's first language, his suggestion that today's hosts had more to offer on the day due to entering the game in the Premier League's bottom three clearly didn't translate well.

"When you come here you know you can lose this game," said Pellegrini, speaking to BT Sports after the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park. "It's a difficult stadium and always a tough game.

"Everton, with four defeats in a row made them give more than 100 per cent of their capacity - but that doesn't mean we cannot play a good game. We are able to play better than we did.

"Maybe, when you are in Everton's situation you have more energy. It happened last season with our team here in the same stadium. We came to play against Everton after four defeats and beat them 3-1.

"Today was different; they kicked every ball as if it was the last ball of their life and we were unable to play in a different way."

Everton - who beat West Ham at a canter at Goodison Park - won the game through goals from former Hammers transfer target Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
