He has experienced a difficult start to his career in London, according to some - which is why the support of his manager has been crucial, believes Pablo Fornals.

The Spanish midfielder has been heavily criticised by sections of West Ham's fan base for having purportedly failed to live up to his ?24million price tag, despite having made just 15 competitive starts in a claret and blue shirt.

And that is one reason why Fornals - who is not 24 until next February - is indebted to Pellegrini for his unwavering backing since signing from Villareal during the summer transfer window.

"The manager reminds me every single day of the confidence he has in me and that he believes in my ability," the former Under 21 international told

"He tells me to continue to enjoy my football, be confident to have the ball at my feet and consistently produce good things that will make a difference on the pitch.

"My sole focus is on adapting to the Premier League and showing my best for West Ham. That is my focus and I want to show my best football to our fans because they deserve to see the best from me.

"We believe in what we are trying to do and are capable of getting a result in every match we play. We will compete every day to improve and be a better team."

West Ham's and Fornals' next challenge comes against Arsenal at the LOS on Monday evening - a game in which he is likely to start once again with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere still unavailable.

And the midfielder insists that despite the team's poor recent sequence of results and lowly league position, the Hammers are in good shape ahead of what will be West Ham's third London derby in their last four outings.

" The confidence is good," he claimed. "There were some good moments at Wolves but obviously we lost, which is disappointing. We need to learn from that result and continue working to improve and get a good result.

"The intensity and strength of the league is very different to Spain, but I am loving the experience of it."
