West Ham are out of the FA Cup after producing a miserable performance against Championship front runners West Bromwich Albion.

And the defeat was inflicted by Slaven Bilic, a manager who was deemed not good enough to continue in his post when sacked by the club's board halfway through the 2017/18 season.

Almost embarrassed: Bilic commiserates with a beaten Moyes

David Moyes, his temporary replacement then and the current West Ham manager now looked shellshocked as he watched his team tumble out of the competition, beaten by a team forced to play with just ten men for the last 20 minutes or so after Albion's Ajayi was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

And it was a team also featuring two players aged 35 or over in veterans Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry.

The only goal of the game arrived with just nine minutes on the clock when Carlos Sanchez's attempted pass back to Darren Randolph hit Issa Diop and rebounded to Kyle Edwards, who produced a great finish to beat the Hammers 'keeper.

Thereafter Albion sailed to victory with West Ham having to wait until the 85th minute of the game to register a shot on target - and that being an easy save for Albion stopper Bond, coming as it did off defender Diop's shoulder.

The Hammers were abject and devoid of any creativity, despite playing the entire game with two strikers in Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti and throwing on Mark Noble and Michail Antonio at half time to replace Pablo Fornals and the simply dreadful Sanchez in search of an equaliser.

Time and time again they opted to shoot from distance rather than attempt to work the ball into the box, a futile policy that never looked like reaping any rewards.

And consequently West Ham were sent tumbling out of the FA Cup having been beaten at home in the competition by lower league opposition for the first time in 23 years.
