The Premier League have indicated that they still intend to complete the 2019/20 season - though have failed to set a date by which this happen.

Following talks between the 20 member clubs on Friday, it has been announced that the League still plans to bring the season, which has 92 matches left to play, to its natural conclusion - even though it is impossible to say how and when that might happen.

The added issue of some player contracts expiring on 30 June has lent a certain degree of urgency to the situation, although the League say they are still examining several "possible scheduling models".

"In common with other businesses and industries, the Premier League and our clubs are working through complex planning scenarios," read a statement on behalf of the League.

"We are actively engaging with stakeholders, including broadcast partners, and our aim is to ensure we are in a position to resume playing when it is safe to do so and with the full support of the government.

"The health and wellbeing of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters are our priority and the League will only restart when medical guidance allows.

"Today's shareholders' meeting provided an opportunity to discuss possible scheduling models. It remains our objective to complete the 2019-20 season but at this stage all dates are tentative while the impact of Covid-19 develops."

West Ham have three senior players out of contract at the end of next month - Carlos Sanchez, Pablo Zabaleta and the on-loan Tomas Soucek. FIFA are reported to be examining the possibility of allowing rolling contracts in order to allow all players to complete the current season with their respective clubs.

The entire Premier League programme has been suspended since 13 March.
