West Ham are currently trialling a new "sanitiser tunnel" that would be used to both check and clean supporters entering the London Olympic Stadium.

The 'Gateway Personal Protection Tunnel', which has been developed by a company called CovProtec was recently installed at the club's Chadwell Heath training base, where the Academy and Women's team are currently based.

And according to reports the club are hoping that a successful test period will result in the tunnel being installed at various locations around the Olympic Stadium, therefore allowing the return of fans to the stadium.

Said to be comparable to an airport scanner, the tunnel initially records the temperature of people passing through with a "thermal imaging camera" before lightly spraying their clothes with a "non-alcoholic, water-based disinfectant".

Premier League clubs are hoping to allow some supporters to return to stadia from the beginning of October although much depends on the success of the Government’s ongoing test events which, it is hoped, will pave the way for spectators to return following the pilot programme.

A recent friendly between Brighton and Chelsea was watched by 2,500 people at the Amex Stadium, while Cambridge’s Abbey Stadium will welcome back supporters on two occasions this week as part of the programme.

The latest batch of testing of Premier League players resulted in three players being found to have contracted Covid-19.

Meanwhile West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek remains in quarantine following the positive result of a fellow Czech Republic team member while the 25-year-old was on international duty last week.
