West Ham transfer target Hans Vanaken has rejected the opportunity to join West Ham.

The Belgian midfielder was the subject of a bid in the region of £14million from West Ham this week but has chosen to remain with current club Brugge.

The 28-year-old, one of the most consistent players in the Jupiler League has confirmed his decision by signing a new contract extension - although he admits he had to think carefully before rejecting the chance to play in the Premier League.

"I thought carefully about the offer," said Vanaken upon signing his new deal with Brugge.

"It's logical - the Premier League is the best league in the world and maybe this was my last chance for a move. But I'm feeling good at Brugge too and my new contract is a sign of confidence."

Meanwhile Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car has also rejected the opportunity to join West Ham after the club lodged a bid worth in the region of £20million.

The Croatian centre half has opted to remain in France in order to represent his club in the Champions League.
