It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times - but no West Ham fan can legitimately say they weren't thoroughly entertained during the 2006/07 season.

It was of course the season of the famous 'Great Escape' - almost certainly THE greatest escape of them all, as West Ham United somehow fought back from a virtually impossible position to preserve their Premiership place on the final day of the campaign at Old Trafford.

Having started the campaign as beaten FA Cup finalists and coming off the back of a ninth place finish in the Premiership, few if any could've predicted just how badly wrong it would go for Alan Pardew - who was fired within six months of that memorable day at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

A season that began with West Ham landing two of the world's most promising youngsters also provided us a managerial change, a change in the club's ownership, more than our fair share of spectacular wins and defeats plus a series of bitter legal battles that saw West Ham forced to pay more than £30million in fines and out-of-court settlements.

Therefore it is perhaps a little surprising that nobody has written a book about that roller-coaster journey - until now. Daniel Hurley is the author of a new book entitled 'The Greatest Escape - The Craziest Season In West Ham United's History' which looks back at one of the most incredible seasons ever at the club.

And earlier this week, Daniel joined KUMB's Graeme Howlett to remenisce about that bizarre - yet ultimately joyous campaign - in a chat for KUMBTV, which you may watch above.

Copies of the book, which is available in hardback and digital format can be pruchased from all good online stores including Amazon, Waterstones and directly from the publishers Pitch Publishing. Prices vary from £9.99 to £14.99.
