West Ham United have been invited to repurchase a giant club crest the club's owners sold at auction back in 2016.
Following the sale of the Boleyn Ground five years ago, the club's majority shareholders staged a sale of hundreds of items including numerous fixtures and fittings. One of the more notable items purchased during the sell-off was a large club logo which was once part of the fixtures and fittings at West Ham's former Upton Park home.
That item was recently discovered languishing in a warehouse in Kent, where it has been since 2016 - much to the dismay of many Hammers fans.

Wasting away: the crest from the Boleyn Ground
And following the discovery, supporters group Hammers United have written to the club's board inviting them to purchase the crest in order that it may be reinstalled at the London Olympic Stadium.
"The plaque is currently in storage in a warehouse in Greenhithe, away from the outside elements, and is reportedly in good condition," read a letter sent by KUMB contributor and Hammers United committee member Trevor Twohig.
"This is a marvellous opportunity to restore part of our great heritage and history; the badge that is depicted appears to be circa-mid 1980's, so would be a wonderful addition to our historic memorabilia.
"Hammers United have made contact with the gentleman that has acquired the plaque and he assures us, pleasingly, it is for sale. He is willing to accept £8,750 for this unique piece of West Ham United history.

In all its glory: the crest before it was removed for sale
"It has caused quite a lot of concern amongst West Ham United fans, that something like this has been found in a storage unit. As such, Hammers United hope that the club will come forward and purchase the piece as part of your commitment in investing in the history, tradition and culture of the football club."
It is unclear how much the current owner paid for the crest back in 2016.
