Rice returns - and will remain

Declan Rice has finally returned to training with West Ham following his exploits at the recent Euro 2020 tournament.

The last of West Ham's international contingent to return to Rush Green, Rice was part of the England team that reached the country's first major final in 55 years, thereby emulating legendary fellow Hammers Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters in 1966.

And despite constant rumours regarding the 22-year-old's future throughout pre-season, he remains very much geared towards representing West Ham United in the Premier League and Europa League next season - as confirmed last week by KUMB.

It was revealed recently that talks between Rice and West Ham regarding a new contract offer had broken down twice this year, with the player understood to have asked to be kept notified of any offers made for him by Champions League clubs.

Yet with no offers forthcoming, and with Rice showing no desire to leave the club, he looks set to lead the Hammers into the new campaign which commences less than a fortnight from now with a trip to Newcastle United.

While West Ham's resolve is yet to be tested, unless a bid of record-breaking proportions is made between now and the end of the transfer window Rice is set for another season in east London with the Hammers.

And it would take an offer north of £75million for David Sullivan and his board to even consider selling a player they picked up on a free transfer eight years ago upon his release from Chelsea, who are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing him following his superb performance for England at the Euros.

However it is thought few - if any - teams outside of Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs have the spending power to match West Ham's valuation of a player who has gone from strength-to-strength since breaking into the first team four years ago.
