High hopes

West Ham supporters remain hugely optimistic ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign - despite the club having failed to sign any new outfield players since the end last season.

The only player David Moyes has thus far managed to introduce to his first team squad since the end of last season - in which West Ham qualified for Europe by virtue of a sixth-place finish - is goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who will challenge current number one Lukasz Fabianski for a place in United's starting XI.

West Ham have made just one signing this summer - yet fans remain optimistic ahead of the new campaign

Yet according to a poll conducted by Sky Bet and YouGov as part of their 'Fan Hopes' campaign, West Ham fans were rated the seventh-most optimistic fanbase ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being not optimistic at all, 10 being very optimistic) West Ham fans scored a 7.5 - 33 per cent higher than last season's survey (5.65, 17th highest in the league) - placing them in the upper half of the table.

And that figure represents the highest increase of any Premier League club who participated in the survey last season.

The research asked fans of each Premier League team a series of questions about their expectations of the new season. For the second successive year, Newcastle United's fans had the lowest expectations with the Magpies finishing bottom of the table.
