Yet when asked about the possibility of competing a deal for the 28-year-old Moyes remained tight lipped. "You are talking about a Manchester United player not a West Ham player," he replied, "so you need to ask Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] about that.
"I never talk about players at other clubs but we are trying to add to the squad if we can. We have made and have other offers in for players.
"It has been a difficult window because the market, in general, has been very quiet. Overall it has been quite a quiet market."
Despite the lack of movement on the transfer front, the boss remains confident that his team can get off to a good start at Newcastle this coming weekend and enjoy another successful campaign.
"[There are] lots of things to look forward to," he insisted. "Hopefully it'll be a special season for us and we can do positives things in the Premier League and Europe as well.
"We finished two points outside the Champions League spots last season so we are going to try and do that again - and get those two points this time."
