Never mind the Baldocks

It's not often in recent years that West Ham fans have sung a song solely in homage to one individual.

Christian Dailly, Carlton Cole and Dimitri Payet were three of the more well-established Hammers to have been privileged enough to have their own tunes.

And former striker Sam Baldock was also a member of that reasonably exclusive list - even though we couldn't possibly repeat the lyrics to his ditty on a family-website like KUMB.

Still, it's good to see that the former Hammer - who made 23 appearances for Sam Allardyce's side during the 2011/12 promotion season - is back in the game after being released by Reading when his three-year contract expired at the end of last season.

Baldock, now 32, has joined Wayne Rooney 's Derby Country on a short-term deal where he will team up with another former member of Allardyce's West Ham squad, Ravel Morrison, at the Championship club.

And the former Hammers have been joined at The Rams by another ex-Premier League star - Phil Jagielka, who made his name at Sheffield United and Everton.

For the trio, the task this season is simple - to help a stricken Derby, who have spent all summer under a transfer embargo remain in the second tier.

And Baldock, who joined the Hammers from MK Dons in a deal worth around £2million will be hoping to score the goals that help keep Derby in the Championship - possibly starting on Wednesday evening when his new club face Hull City.
