Crystal Palace manager Patrick Viera saw his side fail to win for a third successive Premier League game - but felt his Palace team were fully deserving of their point against West Ham on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles doubled their points tally for the season with a 2-2 draw at West Ham despite being behind twice. And the former Arsenal midfielder felt his team got their just desserts from a game in which they more than matches West Ham.

“I think it was a well deserved point because we played well, especially in the second half," he said in his post-match press conference. "I was really pleased with the character that we showed today and we have to build from that performance.

“I’m really pleased with the two goals we scored. I never really had any doubt about us scoring goals and we have been working hard and creating chances [to do that].

“In the first half it was easy for West Ham to defend because we played into feet. One thing we needed to change was running a little bit more in behind. In the second-half we stretched them a bit more and created chances for our forwards to get inside the box and we managed to score those goals.”

Meanwhile Vieira was full of praise for on-loan midfielder Conor Gallagher, who scored both Palace goals and was their best player on the pitch by some considerable margin.

“He’s got the ability to remain calm inside the box," said Vieira. "He’s got a lot of energy and he worked really hard for the team. When he’s in that kind of situation he works well for us and [will] score goals for us.”
