A huge victory for us, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola claimed Manchester City's narrow 2-1 win against West Ham Utd was "a huge victory" for his team.

The hosts took all three points in Sunday's top-of-the-table clash through goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho, while Manuel Lanzini struck for the Hammers.

However Guardiola was under no illusions as to the magnitude and importance of the victory against David Moyes' high-flying West Ham team - a team he has frequently spoken positively about.

"The amount of chances we created, especially in the first half, in the conditions that both teams played in meant it was a huge victory for us, for the effort of the players and the performance," he said during his post-match presser.

"We didn't concede much. We defended the set-pieces really well and counter-attacks we controlled. We could maybe make another speed, another rhythm but weather conditions didn't allow us to do it and it was a good performance."

And the City boss thanked his club's team of groundsmen for ensuring the match was able to continue after the half time interval following a mini blizzard that made conditions difficult duing the first half.

"I think the groundkeepers, the men who took care of the pitch, were the men of the match," he suggested. "They did an incredible job so we could play the game today."
