West Ham United's Under 18s ended their Premier League Cup campaign on a winning note with a 3-0 defeat of Burnley.

Although Kevin Keen's young charges finished bottom of Group G having lost both their earlier games against Arsenal (1-2) and Everton (0-3) they were able to take plenty of positives from this comprehensive defeat of The Clarets.

Forward Divin Mubama opened the scoring after just 13 minutes when firing home from 25 yards, leaving the Burnley 'keeper clutching at thin air. That lead was doubled in the 28th minute when Gideon Kodua completed an excellent team move.

And it was Kodua who added a third in added-on time at the end of the game when prodding home his second of the day after his intial effort has been well saved by the Burnley stopper.

The result - which stretched the Under 18s' unbeaten run in all competitions to four games - was welcomes by assistant coach Gerard Prenderville. "“It was a really good team performance,” he told West Ham's website.

"We travelled up Friday, stayed overnight and attacked it on Saturday, so our preparation was really good. On the day, I thought the whole team, from numer one to number 11 played particularly well. We scored three different goals, but three good goals.

“It has been a nice little run for us, but this team won’t rest on their laurels. We’ll go again this week and they'll be working hard on the training pitch and showing a real togetherness.

“The boys are really receptive and continue to play with the style that Kevin Keen and Mark Phillips are bringing to the team, so we’ll just go again and have another good week of training in preparation for the upcoming games.”
