West Ham have been widely tipped to strengthen their first team squad in January when the winter transfer window opens for business.

Yet David Moyes warned fans that enhancing his squad isn't quite as simple as just 'splashing the cash' and expecting everything to fall into place - as per comments made by new board member Daniel Kretinsky last week.

"I think if it was as easy as buying players then I think we would all do it," he said during his Brighton press conference when asked to provide an update regarding his intentions.

"I'm not sure that it's just as easy as saying go and buy players and you'll do better. I think West Ham have bought quite a lot of players in the past and spent the money which the supporters asked them to do.

"But if you don't get that right, then it it makes it very difficult - and it doesn't always work. You have to buy the right players and then players might need time to settle in.

"So of course we'd like to strengthen and of course, we want you to keep improving and challenge the teams at the top. But it sounds as if the question you're asking is 'is it dead easy just go and spend more money and make it better'.

"And I don't really believe that is the answer to it."

West Ham have been linked with a string of potential signings even though there is more than a month to go until the January window opens for business. You may keep up to date with all the very latest transfer rumours via the Forum's 'January 2022 Transfer Window' thread.
