West Ham are reported to have identified Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd as a "key target" for this summer.A 26-year-old Moroccan international, the left-sided centre half has been on David Moyes' radar since last summer when it was claimed that talks had begun with the French club.
And while that deal failed to materialise, with Moyes opting to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea instead, it is believes that West Ham have returned to Rennes with a fresh offer for a player who can also feature at full back.
Aguerd has only been at his current club for two years having moved from Dijon for a fee of just £3.6million in 2020, having signed a four-year contract.
And according to the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg, the Hammers are poised to offer up to £20million in order to persuade his current club to sell - while preparing to sell Issa Diop on order to free up a space for the Moroccan who is a year older.
Aguerd featured in 35 of Rennes 40 matches during his first season at Roazhon Park, while appearing 38 times already for Les Rouge et Noir even though he also represented Morocco at January's African Nations Cup.
Rennes ended their Ligue 1 campaign in fifth, just three points shy of third-placed Monaco.
* Also on West Ham's radar today according to fresh media reports is Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten, who has been touted as a potential replacement for the retiring Mark Noble.
Hammers scouts have watched the Dutch 25-year-old, who began his career with Den Haag, on several occasions since he returned from a lengthy injury in February and according to the Mail, is being considered as a potential summer signing for David Moyes.
United are however said to face stiff competition should they decide to move for the player, whose position is also being monitored by fellow Serie A clubs including Jose Mourinho's Roma and Napoli, who finished seventh and third in the league this season.
* Lastly in this round-up, West Ham's interest in Leeds' England Euro 21 star Kalvin Phillips is set to be matched by Aston Villa and Manchester United, according to writer Jack Rosser (The Sun).
A number of clubs are monitoring the 26-year-old's situation, with his value set to plummet should Leeds be relegated at the end of the current campaign.
The article also suggests Moyes is keen on Southampton dead ball specialist James Ward-Prowse, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent days - even though the Saints have insisted publicly they have no intention of selling.
