The five nominees for this season's Premier League Manager of the Year have been announced.

The five include Newcastle United's Eddie Howe, who dragged his side away from the relegation zone having spent a small fortune after arriving in the north east with three months of the season already played.

Breaking records at West Ham, but not good enough for the EPL

Additionally Crystal Palace's Patrick Vieira, who has taken the Eagles to the dizzy heights of 11th in the Premier League is also included - as is Brentford's Thomas Frank, who has steered his club to safety in their first season in the EPL.

Almost by default the list includes the ever-present Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, whose team have won nothing so far this season and failed once again to reach the Champions League final - plus Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, who can at least claim to have won silverware albeit with vast backing.

Yet many Hammers fans have expressed surprise not to see David Moyes included, despite the Scot leading his side to within a point of qualifying for Europe via a league placing for the second successive year - the first time any manager at West Ham will have accomplished that feat - and taking the Hammers to the last four of the Europa League.

Yet at least West Ham are represented in the Premier League's Player categories, with Declan Rice being one of eight named in the Young Player of the Season category and Jarrod Bowen in the main Player of the Season award - where he faces stiff competition from the likes of James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Tottenham's Son Heung-min and Manchester City's Joao Cancelo.
