West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma will appear in court on Tuesday to face two charges of causing "unnecessary suffering" to his pet cats and failing to protect the animal from "pain, suffering, injury or disease".The 27-year-old defender will appear at Thames Magistrates Court alongside his brother Yoan - who plays for Dagenham and Redbridge - after the two were charged under the Animal Welfare Act in the wake of an RSPCA investigation.
Yoan, 23, Kurt's younger brother, has also been charged with two counts of "aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring" the West Ham defender to commit the offences which came to light after the younger Zouma brother posted videos of the incidents on social media.
Zouma who signed for West Ham from Chelsea last summer has already been fined£250,000 by West Ham United but has continued to represent the first team. His younger brother has not played for his club since being suspended back in January.
The two cats which were removed from Zouma's home following the incident remain under the protective care of the RSPCA. There are currently no plans to return the pets to their owners.
