Canadian striker Adriana Leon has turned down offers of a new contract and will leave the club this summer.

The 29-year-old forward joined the Hammers at the beginning of 2019, having left former club Seattle Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League. Leon went on to make over 50 appearances for the Irons across all competitions, scoring nine goals.

She was an integral part of the West Ham side that reached the Vitality Women's FA Cup final in May 2019 before ultimately losing to Manchester City at Wembley.

She was however a gold medal winner with Canada at the 2020 Olympics, defeating Sweden on penalties in the final.

The club has seen a new face arrive in the last few days, with ex-Brighton captain Danielle Bowman joining Paul Konchesky's coaching team.

Having spent the early part of her career at Arsenal and then Chelsea, Bowman became a stalwart of the Notts County side, before joining Hope Powell's squad on the Sussex coast. Speaking to West Ham's website, she said “It’s an exciting opportunity.

“I’ve been doing a little bit of coaching over the last couple of years. It’s a new challenge for me and I’m really looking forward to getting started. I like the vison that the club has and where it wants to be in the future, and this is the right move at the right time for me.

“As I’ve gotten a little older, I’ve always tried to help where I can – that happened a lot last season when I was on the sidelines due to injury. It’s a great opportunity to do more of that, but in a controlled manner."

Konchesky is delighted to add someone of Bowman’s experience within the Women’s game to his coaching team. “If you look at Dani’s background, then you know that she’s going to bring a wealth of knowledge to the club,” said the Hammers manager.

“She’s played with a wealth of talent during her career that has only just come to an end – she’s played for her country and in big matches, which is experience that she will be able to pass onto our group."

West Ham United Women kick off their pre-season with a trip to Billericay Town on Saturday 23 July.
