West Ham United's Lukasz Fabianski has been granted a one-year contract extension - with an option to extend it for an additional season.
The former Polish international, who celebrated his 37th birthday in April moved to West Ham from relegated Swansea City in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £7.2million, since when he has cemented his position in the first team under Manuel Pellegrini and David Moyes. And he expressed his delight at securing a new contract that could keep him at the club until 2024.
“I’m obviously pleased and very happy that I can stay for one more year," he told West Ham's website. "The way the club has developed and started to reach its potential, it’s been really nice to be part of it."
And referring to the club's raised profile following a second-successive top seven Premier League finish and a run to the semi finals of the Europa League, Fabianski hopes the upturn in form under David Moyes' leadership continues.
“It feels like this club is one of the bigger ones in the country, so I'm just honoured and proud to be part of it for a few years now," he insisted.
“It all starts with us performing well out there on the on the pitch and being able to play in Europe this season as well really helps, so obviously we’ll be very happy to play in front of more people.
“Hopefully this tendency will continue to improve - not only when it comes to the capacity of the stadium, but for all the fans around the world as well.”
Fabianski, who retired from international football last season will now do battle with fellow goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for the first team goalkeeper's slot.
