It didn't work out, says Yarmo: thanks for the memories, say fans

Andriy Yarmolenko says his four-year spell at West Ham didn't go as well as he had hopes.

The 32-year-old forward signed a one-year contract with UAE Pro League side Al Ain earlier today having been given a free transfer by West Ham.

And after doing so he thanked West Ham fans for their support during his time in London - even though he expressed his disappointment at the way it had panned out.

"Thanks to all you fans and people at West Ham for all your support throughout the whole time," he said via twitter.

"It didn't work out. But there were many happy and pleasant moments for which I am grateful to everyone who was with me and supported me. Thank you all, your Yarmo."

However Hammers fans replied in their droves to thank the Ukraine international for his efforts during his time at the club, which saw him overcome two serious injuries while having to play on as Russia waged war on his homeland.

"It did work out," argued Jim Munro. "You gave us some cherished memories. All the very best to you and your family on your new adventure."

Mike C responded by saying: "We will always have Sevilla," - a popular theme, with Paul Reilly adding: "Your goal against Sevilla will never be forgotten the greatest moment in my lifetime as a West ham fan."

Meanwhile Subaie said: "No - thank you Yarmolenko for keeping our Premier League hopes alive and doing the same two years later with our Europa League hopes."

So even though Yarmolenko himself may feel disappointed at the way his time in Stratford panned out, he clearly left plenty of special memories behind.

That was highlighted by his success in this year's KUMB Awards' 'Most Memorable Moment' category, which he won for his goal celebration in the win against Aston Villa - while his equally emotional celebration against Seville took third spot.
