West Ham succumbed to defeat to the current Premier League champions on the opening day of the season in front of a record crowd at the London Olympic Stadium.

The attendance of 62,500 broke the club's record for a home game but there was little else to cheer for Hammers fans as David Moyes' side were comfortably beaten by Manchester City.

New signing Erling Haaland scored either side of the half time whistle to condemn the Hammers - who were forced to field Ben Johnson as an emergency centre half - to an opening day defeat.

And West Ham also lost Lukasz Fabianski to injury following a collision with matchwinner Haaland with just 27 minutes on the clock.
