David Moyes says he doesn't know when new signing Maxwel Cornet will return to full fitness.

The winger has barely kicked a ball in anger during the last three months and, according to the boss, is no closer to returning due to a persistent calf injury.

"[The situation is] not too good, Maxwel keeps breaking down with his calf," he revealed.

"He’s been to see a specialist in France. We may give him an injection or, if this doesn’t work, it may end up going to an operation on his calf. We’re just not seeing Maxi getting back that quickly.

"That could change tomorrow because it’s been like this for probably three months, maybe longer. We’re just not seeing any signs of him, he’s not back training at the moment - he’s either working in the gym or seeing specialists.

"Every time he’s come back he’s broke down with it or he’s felt as if he’s not been able to train," added Moyes. "He’s been to see several specialists, we’ve tried some different injections, we’ve tried different things to get it going but at the moment, we’re not getting any joy with it.

"He was in Paris this week seeing a specialist and I couldn’t actually tell you [the diagnosis]. I think they’re trying to see if something’s going to work before the last option, which would be to operate if it’s not going to heal."

Fortunately for Moyes and West Ham, the news regarding Kurt Zouma - who recently underwent surgery to correct a persistent issue - was somewhat more encouraging.

"Kurt’s doing really," revealed the boss. "The virus he had a week-and-a-half ago has probably put him back. If he hadn’t had it, he probably would have been in contention.

"Now we’ve got to try and get his fitness levels up. His knee feels really good and he feels much freer with it, although he’s not trained with us yet.

"He’s been out on the grass, he’s doing bits and pieces but he’s not quite ready to start training with us. That'll probably be in the next few days, with a bit of luck."

With regards to Friday night's Premier League clash with Brentford, Moyes revealed that Gianluca Scamacca and Nayef Aguerd are still touch and go - with the striker considerably more likely to feature.

"Gianluca has done a little bit of training, so we will see how he is," he confirmed. "He's probably lacking a bit of match practice and match fitness, that would be my biggest worry but he’s done a bit of training so hopefully he will be okay.

"Nayef is still coming back from illness which we’re still trying to get him over. He’s had a few days training which has helped, but he’s lost a bit of weight from the World Cup, so we’re trying to build him back up.

"If I can get him involved, I will. I will make a decision tomorrow but if you’re asking me is he ready, I don’t believe he’s quite ready yet."
