David Moyes' side were drawn away from home for the third successive round, having previously overcome Brentford (1-0) and League One Derby County (2-0).

Manchester United, rapidly improving under the watch of Erik ten Hag beat Everton and Championship outfit Reading to make the fifth round.

West Ham enjoyed some famous wins against the Reds, most notably in the 1964 semi final in the mud at Hillsborough and in 2000, when Paolo Di Canio scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win.

The Hammers should also have won at Old Trafford in 2016, but were denied the victory after Manchester United scored an equaliser that should've been ruled out for a foul on Darren Randolph by Bastien Schweinsteiger. West Ham were leading 1-0 at the time through Dimitri Payet's wonder free kick.
