West Ham United will face Belgian side Gent in the quarter finals of the UEFA Conference League.
And should the Hammers manage to see off the challenge of the Jupiler League side, the winners of the AZ Alkmaar v Anderlecht tie await in the semi finals. The draw, made shortly after 1pm on Friday afternoon saw the Hammers land a return to Gent for the first leg, whom they previously played on the way to the 1965 Cup Winners Cup Final.
And while the Hammers have never met the Dutch outfit previously, a rematch with Anderlecht - who beat West Ham 4-2 in the final of the 1976 Cup Winners Cup Final - is a tantalising proposition.
Gent reached the last eight of the Conference League courtesy of a Round of 16 win against Baseksehir (5-2 on aggregate), having squeezed through the previous play-off round against Qarabag on penalties, after that two-legged toe ended 1-1 on aggregate.
They finished runners-up in qualifying group F behind Djurgarden, winning just two of their six group matches whilst being held to a draw by Shamrock Rovers and Molde. Their two defeats in the group both came against the Swedish group winners.
It's been a while but 59 years later, we meet again @WestHam! 😁👋🏼
