Saints skipper heading for West Ham

West Ham United have agreed a fee with Southampton for England international James Ward-Prowse.

The Saints, relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season have reluctantly agreed to part company with the midfielder, who has spent his entire career with the south coast club.

And the Hammers will pay in the region of £30million for the 28-year-old, who will help bolster United's midfield following the recent departure of Declan Rice.

The offer for Ward-Prowse was previously rejected by Southampton, but they have now agreed to allow thye 28-year-old to leave after West Ham amended the terms of the deal.

And while the Saints want the player to feature for his current club at Norwich City this weekend, West Ham are understood to have requested that he be rested ahead of the move.

Ward-Prowse is understood to be open to the move, which would see him leave the club with which he has spent his entire professional career so far.

The 5ft 8in set-piece specialist made his first team debut back in 2011, since when he had made nearly 350 appearances for his current club.

He has also made 11 senior appearances fore England, having risen through the ranks while representing the Under 17s (seven caps), Under 19s (four caps), Under 20s (seven caps) and Under 21s (31 caps).
