The agent of Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn has confirmed his client was contacted by West Ham during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old former Tottenham winger was regularly linked with a return to London during the winter window although West Ham failed to turn their interest into something more concrete.

However Nathan van Kooperen, speaking to ESPN on Sunday morning admitted that West Ham had regularly been in contact with him regarding a potential move.

"It’s true about the interest from Saudi and West Ham last window," said van Kooperen, who also represented Edson Alvarez in his move from the Dutch giants to Stratford.

“At the moment Stevie is very important for Ajax, he is the captain so nothing to complain. We started a two-year project with Ajax."

And van Kooperen appeared to suggest that a summer move may still in the offing, when he added: "What will happen in the summer, we will see. At the moment he is focused on Ajax and to play the Euros".
