David Moyes admitted to feeling some sympathy for former club Everton after West Ham staged a smahs and grab at Goodison Park to steal all three points.

With the game level at 1-1 and already one minute into added-on time, Tomas Soucek put West Ham in front for the first time in the match before Edson Alvarez added a third, on the counter, three miinutes later.

And whilst elated with the three points that have helped propel the Hammers to within two points of sixth-place Manchester United, Moyes was honest enough to admit his team had to rely on the brilliance of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to get them out of one or two sticky situations.

"I think the result was harsh on Everton," he began. "They did a lot of good things today, but we just done enough to get in front.

"Our goalkeeper [Areola] made four or five outstanding saves, but we scored three goals - and Everton don't concede too many. We scored four earlier in the week against Brentford, so we've done our job."

As for the goal that put West Ham within reach of the winning post - Tomas Soucek's superbly struck volley - Moyes added: "Ah, it was a brilliant goal. Soucek scored a similar goal here during COVID, I think we won 2-1."

And reflecting on back-to-back wins, which have dampened calls for his replacement by some sections of the fanbase, Moyes indicated he had plenty of reasons to be positive for the final third of the season having regained the services of his three key forwards in Bowen, Kudus and Paqueta.

"We've only lost four of out last 16 matches in the Premier League," he said. "And we're knocking at the door. We're maybe not quite good enough yet to be challenging [the top four] pr being in that position, but we're trying to keep it going.

"We've had two really good wins following a really difficult period in January and February but having Lucas Paqueta back in the team makes us different, makes us play better."
