West Ham United are closing in on the capture of Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran.

The 20-year-old Colombian arrived at Villa Park from Chicago Fire in January 2023 for a fee in the region of £15million, since when he has made three Premier League starts and scored eight goals.

However he has failed to settle into life in Birmingham which has alerted a number of fellow Premier League clubs and several in the European mainland.

While Chelsea initially appeared to be the front-runners for his services, the west London side's interest has waned allowing the Hammers to step in.

And United's Head of Recruitment Tim Steidten, who is presently out of the country, is currently locked in talks with the player and his party as they seek to hammer out a deal.

Villa are understood to be reluctant to sell the 10-times capped international, but are being forced to make cuts in order to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) regulations.

They value Duran, who began his career with Envigado before moving to Chicago Fire in a £1.5million switch, at around the £35million mark.

The Hammers - who KUMB understands have already agreed a fee with Villa for Duran - hope to conclude a deal with the player and his representatives within the next 24-48 hours.

The 21-year-old Argentinian spent last season on loan with Frosinone, where he came to the attention of a number of clubs after ending the season with 11 goals to his name and the highest number of dribbles in Serie A (102).

Fellow Premier League side Leicester City have also been exploring the possibility of signing the Under 20 international.

* Elsewhere Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters' mooted move to West Ham is still on, although the two clubs remain some way apart on their valuation of the former England Under 21.

Talks between the two parties continue this week as both clubs seek to thrash out a suitable deal.
