Team captain Jarrod Bowen has described how Michail Antonio's car accident on Saturday left his family and friends fearing an anxious wait - and the worst.
West Ham's number nine was cut out of the wreckage of his vehicle following the incident last weekend, images of which were quickly relayed around the world via social media. And Bowen described how the wait for news of his team mate's condition in the hours immediately after the accident were agonising for everyone close to him.
"Those few hours on Saturday were difficult," said an emotional Bowen, speaking ahead of tonight's Premier League encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"We were waiting for news and when we got the [positive] news... The main thing now is Mich's safe, he's well and here's here to tell the story.
"Like I said, on Saturday it was a really difficult time. But Mich's a fighter, a warrior - he always has been - so I know he'll be back stronger from this."
