West Ham have pulled out of the race to sign Celtic youngster Daniel Cummings ahead of tonight's transfer deadline after the Scottish club rejected a second offer for the teenager.
A first bid of £500,000 for the 18-year-old forward, who is out of contract this coming summer, was rejected by The Bhoys over the weekend. And a second, improved offer was similarly rejected by Celtic this morning, leading to West Ham informing the Scottish champions they would no longer be pursuing a deal today.
Instead, West Ham plan to sign Cummings at the end of the current season on a free transfer, with a compensation fee to be settled by arbitration in the summer.
* In other deadline day transfer news, West Ham United have confirmed that James Ward-Prowse has returned from his season-long loan spell at Nottingham Forest - as revealed by KUMB in the early hours.
The two clubs agreed to terminate the contract due to limited playing time for the midfielder, who has started just five matches since moving to Nottingham on a temporary basis during the summer transfer window.
"West Ham United can confirm James Ward-Prowse has returned to the club," read a brief statement posted on the club's website.
"Ward-Prowse has spent the first half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest but is now back at the Hammers after a mutual agreement was reached between the two clubs and the player, who made ten appearances during his spell at the City Ground."
