Tin tack for Teutonic Tim

West Ham United have confirmed the departure of Technical Director Tim Steidten.

The German's position was essentially rendered untenable following the arrival of Graham Potter, who insisted upon Kyle Macauley - Steidten's replacement - being part of his back room team.

And on Tuesday morning, the briefest of statements from West Ham confirmed Teutonic Tim's exit from the club.

"West Ham United Football Club can confirm that Technical Director Tim Steidten will be leaving the club," it read. "Tim has been instrumental in our recruitment efforts.

"With the arrival of our new Head Coach Graham Potter, who has brought in his own Head of Recruitment, it is time for Tim to pursue new opportunities.

"We would like to thank Tim for his dedication and hard work and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

Steidten arrived at West Ham in June 2023 and was charged with leading the club's recruitment drive. However he soon fell foul of then-manager David Moyes, who banned him from the club's changing rooms at Rush Green.

It was a situation that repeated itself the following season when Steidten was similarly prevented from entering Julen Lopetegui's inner sanctum, after results took a turn for the worse prior to Christmas.

But the death knell for the 44-year-old was the hiring of Potter and, consequently, Macauley to replace him - an appointment Steidten was charged with leading, despite knowing it would signal the end of his spell in east London.
