West Ham United Women travel to Hayes Lane this Sunday for a lunchtime clash with newly promoted London City Lionesses in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The game kicks off at 12:00pm (BST) at the CopperJax Community Stadium in Bromley, as Rehanne Skinner’s side look to build on their recent cup success against Brighton and collect valuable league points on the road.

It promises to be a good contest between two teams in contrasting stages of development. London City are making their mark in their first ever WSL campaign, while West Ham are aiming for consistency and momentum following an encouraging start in cup competitions.

The Lionesses, led by an ambitious project and a host of high-profile signings, will look to make home advantage count. West Ham, meanwhile, will be eager to bring their cup form into the league and demonstrate the resilience from their recent performances.

Supporters can expect an exciting game. London City are likely to prioritise possession and structured buildup play, using their experienced midfield to control the tempo. West Ham will look to press with energy and hit on the counter through the pace of Shekiera Martinez and Seraina Piubel.

For West Ham, Martinez continues to be a standout performer. The forward has found form in front of goal and will again be central to the Hammers’ attacking threat. Seraina Piubel and Viviane Asseyi will provide the balls coming through, while Amber Tysiak and Shelina Zadorsky are expected to marshal the back line.

Between the sticks, Megan Walsh has impressed with crucial saves in recent outings so maybe will be relied upon once more in this league fixture.

London City have recruited well over the summer and boast a mix of experience and emerging talent. Katie Zelem brings leadership and composure in midfield, while Nikita Parris remains one of the WSL’s most dangerous forwards with her speed and instinct around goal.

Alanna Kennedy and Elena Linari add international pedigree to the defence, and Poppy Pattinson provides attacking width from left-back.

Based on recent line-ups, West Ham could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Megan Walsh/ Kinga Szemik in goal; a back four of Anouk Denton, Shelina Zadorsky, Eva Nyström, and Oona Siren; Amber Tysiak and Katrina Gorry anchoring midfield; and an attacking trio of Piubel, Asseyi, and Riko Ueki supporting Martinez up front.

London City may opt for a flexible 4-3-3, featuring Elene Lete in goal; Jana Fernández, Teyah Goldie, Linari, and Pattinson across the back; Zelem joined by Maria Perez and Van de Donk in midfield; and a forward line of Parris, Kosovare Asllani, and Isobel Goodwin.

West Ham United Women and London City Lionesses have never faced each other in a competitive match before this upcoming fixture.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. London City Lionesses only joined the Barclays Women’s Super League this season (2025/26) after earning promotion from the Women’s Championship, where they finished top last year.

Up until now, their matches against West Ham have only come in pre-season friendlies or behind-closed-doors training games, not in any official league or cup competition.

For West Ham, this meeting marks the start of what could become a new London rivalry, a clash between two ambitious sides representing the capital at different stages of their WSL journeys.

With both sides targeting a strong result before the international break, this encounter has all the makings of a competitive and entertaining WSL contest. West Ham’s confidence will be high after back-to-back wins in the cup, but London City’s home form and quality signings make this a genuine test for Skinner’s side.
