Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that his regular assistant Rui Barbosa has joined West Ham as the club's new first team Goalkeeping Coach.

Barbosa, who has previously worked with Nuno as a goalkeeping coach throughout his managerial career - which has included spells with Rio Ave, Porto, Wolves, Tottenham, Al-Ittihad and Nottingham Forest - replaces the outgoing Linus Kandolin and Casper Ankergren, the latter of whom was employed by the club for less than two months.

"I think he can help us," Santo said during Friday's pre-match press conference. "He has a lot of experience, and he has worked with me for many years. I think he can work well with Billy [Lepine] and the goalkeepers we have here and help us improve as a team."

Barbosa joins an existing first team coaching team that includes the recently-promoted Lepine, Mark Robson, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville. Born in 1973, the former pro - like Santo - spent his career as a goalkeeper, representing the likes of Nacional and Rio Ave.
