Two of West Ham United Women’s players gained valuable minutes away from east London over the weekend, turning out for their loan clubs across the Barclays Women’s Super League 2.
Midfielder Keira Flannery completed the full match for league leaders Charlton Athletic, who were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw on the road against Sheffield United on Sunday. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half through Amy Andrews, before Lucy Fitzgerald struck just before the interval to ensure the points were shared.
Charlton remain top of the table, though their advantage has been reduced to three points following a convincing 5–1 home win for second-placed Birmingham City over Nottingham Forest.
Republic of Ireland international Jessie Stapleton was named on the bench for Forest but did not feature, while goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett was absent from the matchday squad. Birmingham were inspired by Lotta Lindström, who scored three goals in a remarkable six-minute spell.
Elsewhere, Bristol City kept the pressure on the leading pack with a comfortable 3–0 victory over Sunderland at Ashton Gate. West Ham loanee Camila Sáez was introduced from the bench in the 76th minute, with the Robins adding their third goal shortly after her arrival through Lexi Lloyd-Smith.
The result leaves Bristol City five points adrift of Charlton as the promotion race continues to tighten.
