The Red Devils narrowly escaped a FOURTH successive defeat at the London Olympic Stadium thanks to a jammy equaliser in the SIXTH added-on minute. You'd think visiting supporters would be grateful for the point, right? Read on to discover what the Mancs made of their latest visit to London in the OV...
"Carrick had a plan, but it didn’t fully come off. Shaw had a goal cleared off the line. Casemiro had a goal ruled out for offside (I think that was a bad call), Zirkzee nearly with the winner. Impossible to quantify it, but with a little run of the green we win that 4-1. What chances did they even create? Lammens made two good saves but at least one was offside anyway. It’s not like West Ham peppered our goal. Two teams that wanted to play counterattacking football, neither offering the attacking part. When your opponent doesn’t come to play and is content to camp in their own half, it’s going to be a slow, low-scoring game, and we still nearly scored four."
- Wing Attack Plan R
I do think tactically we missed a trick... the offside goal, Zirkzee's chance and the Sesko goal all came from just crossing the ball. We should have spent more time working crossing positions and spamming crosses, the space was out wide, should have been more up for causing a bit of chaos. Either we'd have scored earlier, or had more chances and they would have had to adjust to stop them coming in so regularly, which might have opened things up a little bit more around the box."
- Wolfbot
"Goal line clearance, offside goal by a knee cap, header just wide and an actual goal. Poor performance all round, way too slow in everything on the ball, with West Ham being really compact and disciplined defensively. Genuinely a horrible game of football."
- Oranges038
"West Ham at home, they are such game raising cunts against us. Created nothing of note and they scored a lucky goal so they were able to barricade on their own penalty box. They also defended fanatically. Closed space and passing lanes. Great effort. If Shaw scores from the corner routine it is a different game and we maybe beat them by a few goals. All in all in the end just really happy that Sesko scored that beauty of a finesse goal to shut the whole stadium up and send West Ham players in despair."
- SonOfFergie
"West Ham defended very well. Got back in numbers and made it very hard for us to break them down. Classic Nuno performance. If I was nit-picking I would complain about the quality of our delivery from wide areas, which was poor. We got in great positions to cross but the quality of our crossing was terrible. On another day the Shaw and Casemiro goals both count and it’s an easy enough win."
- Pogue Mahone
"What a shit game, we never looked likely to score. Even our goal came out of nothing. Just absolutely terrible performance against a shit team."
- Agila Dathi
"Thought West Ham were brilliant today. Wouldn’t say it was a disasterclass from us - we were ok bar Amad and maybe Dalot, sometimes his delivery is so frustrating. Would also like to see more from Cunha in these kinds of games - feel like his dribbling and long range finishing should make a bigger impact against well organised teams. Carrick should also have brought Sesko on earlier, and I’m buzzing for him that his scoring form continues."
- rhodeo
"Happy with a point. West Ham's cup final every season, we were poor and you can't win them all. A 96th minute equaliser, you have to be happy to get a point."
- Djemba-Djemba
"West Ham should have been 3-0 up by the time the Sesko chance arrived. They had several counter attacks, Yoro defended on his own."
- Lash
"We had one cleared off the line. One goal disallowed for a micro offside. An actual goal. A header just wide from Zirkzee and late chance on the break when Amad should've shot. All this against the most defensive team and set up I've seen us play against all season. We deserved the point and I thought we played okay. You can't be great every game."
- GaryLifo
"Nuno always strangles us, he's got our number tactically and has done well to stifle us with Wolves, Forest and now West Ham. We couldn't really lay a glove on them in open play so fair play to him tactically. We had one cleared off the line, and one ruled out as the skin on Casemiro's knee was offside. On another day we could have nicked a very tight game. West Ham also had their chances to win the game and will be disappointed they didn't come away with the win. I'll take the point as it keeps the unbeaten run going."
- Overhaul FC
"West Ham pressed and hounded us for 90 minutes - not giving us a second to think. Sometimes you just have to applaud the opposition - we couldn’t cope today. Thanks to Sesko we got an important point."
- Rasmus_9
"West Ham died for that pointless draw. I hate them so much, shove your bubbles up your arse, watch them phone it in against Bournemouth now."
- Scholesgoals
"What game do people watch? We tried and tried but couldn't break down a solid West Ham defence. People, understand other teams have 11 top players and can play football as well? West Ham were like prime Atletico Madrid yesterday and Wan Bissaka was Cafu regen like he often is against us. Their left back didn't give an inch to Amad and they were solid as fuck. It has nothing to do with our boys not trying or being complacent."
- statpadders
"Going to choose to be positive about that. That was not like our previous 'poor' away performances. West Ham were incredibly well organised. That was one of the better defensive performances I can remember seeing this season, and I think pretty much every team in the league would have struggled to break it down. The fact we managed to come away with a point should be viewed as a point gained."
- chris123
"West Ham had all the luck as well tonight. Player slips and in doing so makes a tackle. Cross attempts ricocheted back off Utd. Bounces and bobbles all to WH player. That said, we didn’t do enough either. Far from it."
- Pughnichi
"Overall, probably a decent point for both sides. Helps West Ham in their fight to stay up and Man United get another point in the scrap for a CL spot. On the back of the four wins and frankly, some of the best football we've seen from a Man United side in years, this was a disappointing showing by quite a few of the lads. West Ham backed up and we failed to get behind them. Great to see another fine finish from Sesko, on to the next game and hopefully back to winning ways."
- TRUE NUMBER 9
"It was always going to be a tough ask to go to West Ham and win to make it five on the bounce. West Ham are in seriously good form - just annoying Chelsea dropped points too."
- LittleP14
"Can’t believe we got a point from that. Atrocious performance. But happy that we did!"
- Jed I. Knight
"Absolutely dreadful stuff, but we'll take a point."
- Leftback99
"They did execute their game plan really well, but we absolutely did play into their hands and didn't make the most of the only place there was space which was on the wings. Of course our goal and two other close efforts came from crosses, so it was clearly something we should have done more of. West Ham were excellent in what they were doing though, can absolutely see why the haven't lost in five games."
- Wolfbot
"Just bloody well knew it, was Brown in 92 and Hughes in 95 all over again. The positive is at least we took a point but for next 13 days please work on holding that damn offside trap better. That's now SIX offside goals against City, Spurs and West Ham. Oh and one last thing Frank, just cut your hair - I'm sick of this."
- croadyman
"The fact that West Ham took only one point is some sort of a conciliation, I hate playing against them and can't wait to see them relegated."
- Giggsyking
"West Ham didn’t come to play football, but they were top notch defensively, like their lives depended on it. They covered every blade of grass and, at one point, had about nine defenders on the pitch. To start saying 'Carrick has been found out' is ridiculous. You can just tell there’s a pack of people who’ve been waiting to get their knives out. We looked lethargic and nicked a point, but West Ham would have taken all three points from 17 out of 20 teams in the league tonight make no mistake."
- GGMUFinest
"We were incredibly flat for the last period of the first half. Overall, I think the result is fair. On the way back to the station the West Ham fans around me were talking like they'd won a cup final. Also, they need to sort out their stadium control to get back to trains - a 10 minute walk took me 45 minutes."
- yaps
"Nuno will keep them up, I think. I really want to see him catch Forrest and Spurs. That would be so poetic."
- Gator Nate
"I don't think we played well and if we had lost, we could have had no complaints. West Ham fans are the most entitled I've ever come across - they had a few players in England's World Cup winning team and 60 years later they still think they're owed something."
- Reiver
"West Ham are absolute bastards, by the way. If they put that much effort in every match they'd be nowhere near the bottom of the table."
- SuperiorXI
"We don't seem to beat teams managed by Nuno, ever. Most underrated coach in the league, I think he'll keep West Ham up."
- Blood Mage
"West Ham are showing a bit of fight. So glad to get out of there with a point. I also had a tooth out yesterday evening so was feeling very sorry for myself. "
- DomesticTadpole
"Now I see why West Ham have such a poor home record. They were brutal. The atmosphere was funereal. We'll never have an easier game in that stadium. Shocking defending from Shaw and Martinez for the goal. Completely lacklustre throughout."
- Olecurls99
"West Ham can feck off, but Bowen is a very good and probably underrated player. We should have signed him and they would have been completely shorn of creativity and talent."
- Wing Attack Plan R
"How many times have West Ham spoilt our party over the years?"
- moodyred
"They’re like the perfect foil to the way we like to play. Low block, counter attacking, full of players who are typically crap but can always raise their game. Then you’ve got a mix of pains in the arse like Bowen who never stops running. Also wildcard players like Adama. That combined with Nuno’s tactics is a bit of a nightmare. Draw is fine. Some good players there though. Diouf looks pretty decent."
- Solius
"We've a bad record against West Ham. Sometimes that happens, we managed a draw and are still unbeaten and the form team in the league."
- Gavinb33
"Diouf looked really good. He had Amad locked down for a lot of the game. Shaw replacement to look at, maybe?"
- Cloud7
"I take solace in the fact that West Ham walked away feeling like they lost, judging by the players reactions and fan reactions."
- Chairman Steve
"Fecking hate WHU. Nuno, Bowen's stupid face, stupid stadium - and that idiot who won't cut his hair."
- DrRodo
"I'd like West Ham to go down more than Leeds, that's how much I hate them."
- bananaman
"Fecking hate West Ham away."
- JohnnyLaw
"Counterintuitively, given some of the brutes West Ham have in there like Soucek and the defenders, slinging more crosses in was the way to go; either that or snapshots and playing for percentages with rebounds when it became clear they were almost impossible to unlock. Hopefully Carrick has learned his lesson in the meantime, but not having much variety to his team's play and not being decisive enough with subs were two things levelled at him after the first season at Middlesbrough. I was already wary about him being granted the job and being seen as a solution to all the issues before this game; today only reinforced that."
- Baxquux
"Fecking terrible performance. Considering the recent form, the result itself is not bad as we managed a draw but that performance, fecking hell. None of them were up for it. They obviously thought they could just turn up for the game and get the win. Carrick should also take the blame for allowing that complacency to creep up. I thought I'd be over it as it's not a bad result all things considered, but that performance annoys me as it's a recurring theme for us. Dropping points because the players don't feel like it."
- saik
"Four wins, zero defeats and one draw from Man City, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham, West Ham is a good return. Wasn’t vintage, but I’m looking at a point saved rather than two dropped."
- Wing Attack Plan R
"All credit to West Ham, better than us and probably deserved the win. We'll take the draw after all. Shame about minimal offside from Casemiro, maybe we would have taken all three points if that stood. Better than defeat and when you put it in context that we've won 13 out of 15 in the last five games that's good. But it'll take so much effort to qualify for CL and not sure we'll be having some winning runs like we did with four until tonight."
- BorisManUtd
"I can't even celebrate these last minute equalisers as I tend to feel in the heat of the moment that one point and zero are much the same. Although I know that one point can make a difference at the end of the season. The draw is good for the morale but above all, stopping these wankers from moving away from the relegation was a pure joy. I'd take that."
- Deewill
"Happy enough with a point with a team we typically struggle against especially with Chelsea also dropping points. Keeps us in fourth."
- WitchWithoutACat
"Kind of predictable after the media almost crowned us champions after four games. What is concerning is not the fact that we lost points to relegation team (again), but the performance. It looks that it is a mentality problem. Complacency at it's best. We turn it on against the rival but does not care against the relegation fodders. And don't tell me that West Ham are a good side because they can beat the mighty Wolves."
- Houdini
"Before the game, I thought we'd turn up and get all tree points. During the game, I was very disappointed with our performance. After the game, absolutely delighted that we got a point from that, considering the way we played. It's a very undeserving point, but will gladly take it!"
- Superunknown
"We weren't poor. We just weren't at our best. West Ham JUST like at Old Trafford were 100% lucky."
- Red Indian Chief Torn Rubber
"Chelsea drawing is a massive get out of jail card tonight. And by God if West Ham get relegated Ill throw a bloody party. Hate them."
- Robertd0803
"100% win that if it wasn't for that gimp and his stupid hair."
- Yoralif
"I won't shave my bollocks until we win the league."
- Dansk
