West Ham are through to the quarter finals of the FA Cup for the first time in a decade - and just one home match against Leeds United from Wembley.
With the meeting between the two teams on the final day of the season tipped as a potential 'survival showdown', due to the precarious Premier League position both clubs find themselves in at present, West Ham and Leeds were already poised for a meeting of great consequence before the curtain falls on the 2025/26 campaign. And following tonight's last eight draw, which took place shortly before the start of West Ham's last 16 encounter with Brentford, a trip to Wembley in the semi finals is also at stake; West Ham will once again hold home advantage when the teams meet for a dress rehearsal of that season- which is scheduled to take place over he weekend of 4/5 April.
However the joy of could prove to be short-lived after Crysencio Summerville, a half-time replacement for the energetic Adama Traore spent the final ten minutes of extra time in tonight's tie hobbling having sustained what appeared to be a calf problem.
That concern aside, it was another joyous night for the Hammers who left it late to confirm their spot in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Having taken the lead on 19 minutes through Jarrod Bowen, the Hammers were pegged back ten minutes later when the in-form Thiago's effort was allowed to stand following a lengthy VAR check for hand ball.
However West Ham were to regain their lead just six minutes later, when VAR intervened to confirm Adama Traore had been unfairly felled by Michael Kayode - an infringement that appeared fairly clear to the eye of those both inside the stadium and on TV.
Bowen stepped up to fire the Irons back into the lead, a position he would find himself in again during the ensuing shootout - which was required following Thiago's second of the game just nine minutes from the end of the 90, this time from the penalty spot after Summerville was adjudged to have shoved Kayode as he attempted to connect with a cross.
As it transpired, Hammers fans had little to worry about as Santo's men converted all five of their spot kicks - while Dango Ouattara proved to be the fall guy for the Bees with the score at 2-1 to West Ham, attempting a Penenka which he simply chipped into the arms of an unmoved Alphonse Areola, who appeared almost embarrassed to save it.
