Double nomination for Hammers pair

West Ham United's Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jarrod Bowen have been included in the eight players nominated for he Premier League's Player of the Month award.

The Greek defender had enjoyed a fantastic month at the heart of the Hammers defence, during which he grabbed his first brace in a claret and blue shirt against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Meanwhile the Hammers skipper may not have netted personally during March but his four assists have proved vital in United's climb away from the relegation zone.

"West Ham conceded only once in April and Mavropanos, with his strength and athleticism, has been the key component in a defence that may well save them from the drop," read the Premier League's website.

"Not only that, he delivered at the other end when it mattered, opening the scoring against Wolves before sealing an emphatic win late on against the league’s bottom side."

And as for Bowen, the website added: "West Ham needed players to step up in their relegation battle and Bowen has delivered.

"Four assists – two in the 4-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and another two in the 2-1 win over Everton – have propelled the team to seven points from a possible nine at a crucial stage of the season. Bowen is now joint-second with Rayan Cherki on 10 assists for the campaign."

a consequence he has been named as one of the nominees for this month's award.

The six other contenders are Rayan Cherki (Manchester City), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Pascal Gross (Brighton & Hove Albion), Noah Okafor (Leeds United), Nico O'Reilly (Manchester City) and Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth).
