Two West Ham United Women loanees were in action over the weekend, with contrasting outcomes as their respective sides wrapped up their league campaigns.

There was late disappointment for Keira Flannery and her Charlton Athletic Women teammates on the final day of the FA Women's Championship season. Heading into their decisive clash against Birmingham City Women, Charlton sat at the top of the table and knew that avoiding defeat would be enough to secure automatic promotion to the Women's Super League.

However, things didn’t go to plan. Birmingham produced a clinical performance, with Wilma Leidhammar scoring once in each half to give the visitors a 2–0 victory. Despite Charlton’s efforts, they were unable to respond, and the defeat proved costly.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace Women capitalised on the situation with a commanding 6–1 win over Portsmouth Women, allowing them to leapfrog Charlton into second place. Birmingham, meanwhile, finished level on points but edged the title on goal difference, sealing both the championship and promotion.

As a result, Charlton dropped into the promotion/relegation play-off position. Flannery, who has been a consistent presence throughout the campaign with 27 appearances across all competitions, will now turn her attention to a crucial fixture against Leicester City Women on Saturday 23 May, where a place in the top flight will still be on the line.

In contrast, it was a steadier end to the season for Ruby Warwick, who featured for Barking Women in their final London & South East Regional Women's Premier Division fixture. Warwick started as Barking played out a 1–1 draw at home to Aylesford Women.

While there was no late drama at the top or bottom of the table for Barking, the result confirmed a solid fourth-place finish in the standings, capping off a positive campaign in which Warwick gained valuable senior experience.

Overall, it was a weekend that highlighted both the highs and lows of football for West Ham’s loanees—one facing a high-stakes play-off after a near-miss, and another concluding her season on a stable note.
