The Premier League have admitted that West Ham United should have been awarded TWO penalties in the 3-0 defeat at Brentford a fortnight ago.
Hammers fans were incensed when Tomas Soucek was hauled to the ground at a corner by Keane Lewis-Potter, only for the incident to be ignored by match referee Craig Pawson and the VAR team, led by Tony Harrington. And their ire was doubled later in the game when Pablo was felled inside the penalty area by Yehor Yarmolyuk, only to see Pawson wave play on once again.
However the latest Premier League Key Match Incidents panel has found that BOTH of the aforementioned incidents should have resulted in a penalties to West Ham.
On the Soucek incident, the reviewing panel came to the unanimous conclusion that Lewis-Potter had manhandled the Czech Republic international "in a clear non-footballing action which impacted the West Ham player's movement".
And with regards to the Pablo incident, the KMI panel voted 3-2 in favour of a penalty being awarded - but rather bizarrely, 4-1 against a VAR review being called for.
While the club may feel vindicated by the panel's findings, the record books still record the result as a 3-0 defeat and does nothing to help West Ham United's battle against relegation, which has been made considerably more difficult in recent weeks by a string of controversial and highly questionable decisions by PGMOL officials such as these.
The series of officiating errors involving West Ham came to the fore following Sunday's 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal, the result of referee Chris Kavanagh's hugely-controversial decision to overturn Callum Wilson's added-on time equaliser.
