It has been claimed that former West Ham United CEO Karren Brady WAS aware of David Sullivan's Football Association ban, preventing him from having any contact with either the club's youth and women's teams.
And the BBC report adds that Brady, who began working with Sullivan nearly 40 years ago and joined West Ham along with Sullivan and partner David Gold in 2010, had known about the imposed restrictions for THREE years."We've learnt that she was made aware in July 2023 of safeguarding concerns relating to Mr. Sullivan," said the BBC's Billy Kimber. "Those concerns meant he was banned from contacting the women's and youth teams, but she remained in her position for nearly three more years.
"She has said in correspondence through lawyers that she defends her decision to stay and that it was because of the principle of a presumption of innocence.
"She's also said through lawyers that she had no knowledge of the allegations made in a wider BBC in time of investigation accusing him [Sullivan] of sexual misconduct. He categorically denies those allegations."
Earlier this week Brady instructed high-profile law firm Carter-Ruck to act on her behalf regarding any media interest in the scandal. A statement issued on Tuesday read: "The joint-investigation by BBC Panorama and The Times has nothing whatsoever to do with our client.
"The allegations which have been made against Mr Sullivan in a personal capacity do not relate to our client (or West Ham United), and it would be false and defamatory to make any suggestion otherwise.
"Our client's position is that she should not be included in any publication alongside the allegations which have been made against Mr Sullivan, given that they do not relate to her."
